Crystal Palace Terrarium Design Crystal Palace Design:

This terrarium design is an art glass piece influenced by the famous Crystal Palace in London.

It is available in two sizes. Both have a fully removable top for easy access to the garden. The garden itself is contained within a removable plastic tray.

The standard layout is 16" long, 7.5" wide and 17" high and is shown on the right. It allows the roof section to be removed giving full access to the growing area and the ability to remove the growing tray if desired.

The original layout for this size, is shown in the first three photos, had one arched glass section in the lower wall serving as a small door into the terrarium. This style is no longer in production.

The large layout is built on the same base as the Bevel House design. This increases the base footprint by 25% and the lower wall by 2" to keep the proportions the same, and the interior volume by over 40%.

It is 18" long, 8.5" wide and 18.5" high. The last two images in this section show the size increase of the lower portion of the two sizes. The upper story is the same height.

The design layout is from "Contemporary Crafts - Stained Glass" by Marc Gerstein and Lynette Wrigley with modifications for execution in leaded came, to use a metal base and to have a removable roof. The interior of the terrarium has a plastic tray inserted prior to attaching the base. The tray is spray painted to match the colored glass. In the photograph the base is hunter green to match the green opal glass at the base.

The lower trim is a green opal glass and the upper curved segments are light green GNA glass (German New Antique). GNA glass is a clear glass with antique lines. Other colors are available.
